There are 2 categories of building contaminants

Chemical contaminants or Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)

Formaldehyde, radon, chloroform, and ammonia - commonly found in building materials and office furnishings such as manufactured wood products, upholstery, carpeting, ceiling tiles, etc. Other sources of chemical contaminants include cleaning products, disinfectants, adhesives, pesticides, paints and solvents, among others.

Biological contaminants or Bioaerosols

Mould, mildew and fungi, bacteria, pollen, and dust mites – that generally arise out of damp conditions.
